It is very important for people to read and study the Bible. It reveals the will of God for the Believer and the path of Salvation for the non-believer. Personally, I believe that praying the Scriptures is a good way to talk to God. The following verse reveals God’s attitude towards pride and arrogance.
Proverbs 8:13 (KJV) states “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
Why Does God Hate Arrogance?
The Lord hates arrogance for good reason. The arrogant put themselves before anything, including God. I believe a good number of people struggle with this sin. I definitely struggle with this sin, and I express it in annoying ways that have cost me important relationships and strained others down through the years.
Jesus: Not Self
Exodus 20:3 (KJV) states “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Moreover, in John 14:6 (KJV), “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Putting self first means that we forget that the only way to the Heavenly Father and into heaven is through Jesus.
Arrogance leads to a walk without God: “the evil way”. Walking without Jesus leads to a sinful life that doesn’t glorify or honor Jesus. Moreover, I believe that arrogance leads to a “froward mouth.” In the Church, a “froward mouth” can disrupt worship and take the focus away from Jesus. His glorification is subdued. People get discouraged, and the Gospel message is hindered. Christian conversation should point to and glorify Christ. Arrogance prevents that, in my opinion.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I pray that I maintain a humble attitude. Help me realize that you did the work of salvation at the cross, and my salvation is not based upon my own works. I pray that I keep you at the the center of Conversation so that you may be glorified. Amen.
